CODE 65493 ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018 CREDITS 2 cfu anno 2 LOGOPEDIA 9282 (L/SNT2) - SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MED/04 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: GENERAL PATHOLOGY AND PHARMACOLOGY TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The Course is meant to give an understanding of the main causes of disease and knowledge of the physiological response to cell and tissue damage. The Course gives also insights into the pathogenesis of important processes such as inflammation, neoplastic transformation, metabolic and blood related disorders AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Knowledge of different aspects of general physiopathology that enable graduate students to explore or expand any field connected to this topic. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Understanding of the mechanisms underlying the inflammatory process and the neoplastic transformation. In-depth knowledge of the main molecular and cellular mechanisms of the immune response (natural and adaptive). Comprehension of the central aspects of important metabolic and blood diseases. The Course is intended to allow a thorough grounding and a multi-perspective approach to principles of physiopathology. TEACHING METHODS Frontal lessons SYLLABUS/CONTENT Environmental causes of disease: causes of physical origin (Radiations and Temperature) and different kinds of trauma; causes of chemical origin. - Mechanisms of xenobiotic biotransformation. - General features of the innate and adaptive immune response. - The inflammatory process: definition and causes of angioflogosis; active and passive hyperemia (causes and consequences), the inflammatory oedema (causes and different exudates), cellular and plasmatic mediators, histoflogosis (pathogenesis and classification). - Mechanisms of tissue repair. - Pathological regressive processes: atrophy, degeneration and cell death. - Pathological progressive processes: hypertrophy/hyrperplasia, metaplasia and neoplasia. - General oncology: atypical morphology, metabolism and behavior of cancer cells; initiation, promotion and progression in carcinogenesis; metastasis (definition and implications of tumor spread); oncogenes (definition of and their mechanisms of activation); causes of cancer (physical, chemical and biological factors); classification of tumors on the basis of behavior (malignant/benign), histogenesis, grading and staging.
