Spanish American Literature and Culture
Optional exam, for students of the III year of LCM, 9 or 6 formative credits.
THE SPANISH AMERICAN LITERARY TALES FROM MODERNISM TO OUR DAYS.
The course aims to provide a fundamental knowledge of the development of the narrative genre in the 20th and 21st centuries in American Spanish literature, particularly in the contemporary Mexican area, and to promote reflection on the relationship between aesthetic choice and socio-cultural aspects of works examined through appropriate analytical tools.
- Promote the knowledge of Spanish American cultural and literary history in the modern and postmodern era.
- Facilitate the acquisition of skills for an adequate critical analysis methodology.
- Promote language reading and reflection on the aesthetic character of literary work.
- At the end of the course the student will be able to identify the most relevant phenomena related to the history, culture and literary genre of the Spanish American tale.

The course aims to critically analyze the development of the hispanic american tale within the main literary streams of the 20th century, considering the different themes and contexts that make up the background. In particular, the second seminar will explore the postmodern transmutations of the genre in contemporary Mexican literature (21st century), reflecting on the aesthetic and socio-cultural aspects of the works studied.
1) El cuento hispanoamericano en el siglo XX: teoría y práctica (lessons will show the chapters to be analyzed for the exam).
2) An anthology selection will be handled by the teacher and made available to students in aulaweb.
3) a. Students with 6 cfu (seminar in the I semester). ATTENDERS: they will also have to read intregrally a collection of tales from one author among those present in the list published in aulaweb. NON-ATTENDERS: they will have to choose two (of different writers).
b. Students with 9 cfu (two seminars: one for each semester). ATTENDERS: they will also have to read integrally two collections of tales from two different authors among those indicated in the document published in aulaweb. NON-ATTENDERS: they will have to choose three (of different writers).
4) Other articles of literary criticism and summary papers relating to the course topics will be offered in aulaweb.
5) Giuseppe Bellini, Nueva historia de la literatura hispanoamericana, Madrid, Castalia (only the part from Modernism to our day).

Oral: in Spanish or in Italian.
Interview. Oral examination of course content, in particular: historical-cultural contexts, critical material and texts studied, as well as the history of literature and the anthological selection.
