The course consists of 1 credit and is organized in 6 hours of lectures. It allows the student to acquire basic knowledge on the etiology, pathogenesis and clinical features of the major human parasitic diseases.
At the end of the optional course, the student has a basic knowledge of the biology and the host-parasite interactions of protozoa and animals parasites of human beings. In particular, the student is able to recognize morphologically species or groups of parasitological interest, he knows the prophylactic rules to limit/eliminate infestations or infections caused by protozoa and animal parasites.
The main purpose of the course is to provide the basic knowledge on Biology and the host-parasite interactions of protozoa and parasitic animals of human beings., to be able to recognize morphologically the species or groups of major parasitological interest, to know the rules of hygienic prophylaxis in order to contain/eliminate infestations or infections caused by protozoa and parasitic animals.
Teaching is organized in frontal lessons for a total of 8 hours.
Objectives of Parasitology. Leishmaniosis and trypanosomiasis. The amoebae. Malaria. Toxoplasmosis. The Metazoa: Tapeworms (solium, echinococcus). Nematodes: Pinworms and Hookworm
