The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical knowledge and the technical skills on the most relevant methods used for the purification and the qualitative analysis of a pharmaceutically relevant compound. The course will include laboratory exercises.
Lessons and laboratory exercises.
Qualitative analysis of inorganic salts: systematic search of anions (phosphates, thiosulphates, iodides, bromides, chlorides, sulphates, nitrates) and cations (silver, barium, bismuth, copper, alluminium, iron, manganese, zinc, calcium, magnesium).
Qualitative analysis of organic compounds: preliminary assays and test for specific functional groups (alcohols, polyalcohols, carbohydrates, phenols, carboxylic acids, esters, amines, amides, aminoacids, sulfonamides, pyridine and purine derivatives).
Spectroscopic methods: UV/VIS, IR, NMR, mass spectrometry.
