The course has the aim of giving the students the tools to critically carry out the dimensioning of the main ship structures built both in aluminium and steel and composite materials. Starting from the physics of the problem, the students will be driven to the crtical comprehension of rules and requirements.
The course provides the specific knowledge for the identification and evaluation of the loads on the hull structure and the realization of a homogeneous structural scheme able to withstand these loads and compatible with the constraints imposed by the hull and the shape and distribution of functional spaces .
Successfully overcoming the course the students will be able to:
The course foresees both theoretical lectures and computer exercises. In particular with the help of a spreadsheet the main structural checks will be implemented for the structural design of yachts.

Lectures will star on February 19th to Polo Marconi, La Spezia
The exam is both written and oral. Three calls are foreseen in the summer session (June, July and September) and in two in the winter session (January, February)
The written part foresees the solution of an statically indeterminate, the scantling definition of a typical boat structure. The oral part will focus on the written exam discussion, on the discussion of the exercises developed during the course and on the whole course contents.
The candidates must enroll at least three days before the exam data on the informatic system. the results for the written part will be published on the AUlaweb portal together with the oral date.
No enrolment is needed for the oral part.
