In particular, the role played by the media will be analyzed in the contemporary age, above all in the context of historical caesura (wars, mass emigration). Particular attention will be given to the public use of history through the media of the contemporary world (television and Internet) AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at providing knowledge and interpretative tools on the role played by the mass communication media in the dynamic of social history. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The attendance and active participation in the proposed training activities and the individual study will allow the student to acquire adequate knowledge and an effective ability to understand the main issues of the contemporary age, analyzed through the development of the media. Particular importance will be reserved to the critical analysis of the media in the communication of the past and its exploitation. PREREQUISITES Basics of contemporary history TEACHING METHODS The teaching consists of lectures for a total of 36 hours. The use of multimedia supports is foreseen. Specific lessons with laboratory cutting will be dedicated to social media action SYLLABUS/CONTENT The teaching program includes an in-depth study of the issues related to the development and use of communication tools, especially during some key events of the twentieth century such as wars and migrations. Attention will also be reserved to the use of media as propaganda tools, in particular in the context of totalitarianism. The notes taken during the lessons and the material on aul@web are essential for the preparation of the attendance exam (those who have attended at least 75% of the lessons). The exam is exclusively oral for non-attending students (ie for those who have not attended at least 75% of the lessons). The following calls are planned: Three calls from January 2019 to February 2019 Four calls from May 2019 to July 2019 Two calls in September 2019 ASSESSMENT METHODS Further details and clarifications on how to prepare for the exam will be provided during the lessons.
