AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES To supply a basic chemical culture, required to describe the thermodynamic and kinetic in the organic reactions of hydrocarbons and common functional groups. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The training activities proposed in the form of lectures and exercises, associated to the individual study, will allow the student to: know the reactions for the conversion of the main inorganic compounds; understand the structure of coordination compounds; know the organic nomenclature and the different isomersisms; understand the reaction mechanisms of organic compounds; discuss all the proposed activities with a scientific method and appropriate language. TEACHING METHODS Lectures and exercises in the classroom. The assessment of learning and operational skills during the course will take place through the monitoring carried out during the exercises. The transversal skills in terms of independence of judgment will be acquired through the classroom performance of the exercises to be carried out in a group. TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD GIANGUIDO RAMIS Ricevimento: Teacher's Office, Polo Marconi in La Spezia, student reception by appointment. Exam Board GIANGUIDO RAMIS (President) GIACOMO CERISOLA ELISABETTA FINOCCHIO MARCO PANIZZA LESSONS LESSONS START According to Degree Programmes Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The exam includes an oral test with open questions. This is structured on 4 questions of different weight for evaluation purposes. The first question is related to the reactivity of the main inorganic compounds, the second to the energy states of the electronic levels s, p, d, f of the transition metals, both weighing 6/30, the third to reaction mechanisms and the fourth on the synthesis of an organic molecule according to the reactions studied during the teaching module, both weight 9/30. In more detail, the contents of the four questions are: 1) Hydrogen; compounds of s-block elements; compounds of d-block elements; bio-inorganic compounds; semimetals and amphoters; anions of non-metals; silicates and silicoaluminates; gaseous molecules of non-metals; air quality. 2) Coordination compounds; surface reactivity; semiconductors for LED; photocatalysis. 3) Describe one of the following reaction mechanisms: chain, electrophilic addition, electrophilic substitution, nucleophilic substitution, nucleophilic carbonyl attack, carbonyl alpha hydrogens reactivity, acyl substitutions, heterogeneous catalysis. 4) Give the name and synthesize an organic molecule starting from simple raw materials, similarly to what was done during the classroom exercises and present in the appropriate section available to all students in Aulaweb. There are no limitations to the number of sustainable tests in the two exam sessions. ASSESSMENT METHODS The cognitive interview with the student will allow: evaluate the knowledge of the reactions for the transformation of the main inorganic compounds; verify the ability to develop an electronic model for the structure of coordination compounds; evaluate the knowledge of organic nomenclature and of different isomers; verify the ability to model the mechanisms of the organic reaction. The quality of the exhibition, the knowledge of the technical terminology, the methodological rigor and the ability to apply the scientific method will be comprehensive part of the evaluation.
