The main topics are the basic analysis of linear circuits in DC and AC steady state, the description and functioning of diodes, bipolar junction transistors and operational amplifiers and their application in rectifiers and amplifiers. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Circuit theory in direct and alternate current, electric characteristics of elementary components, impedances and admittances, diodes, transistors and amplifiers; analysis of simple electric and electronic circuits, measurements of electric quantities. Component dimensioning in an electric or electronic circuit. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the teaching, the student will be able to analyze a linear, time-invariant circuit in DC and AC steady state. The student will also be able to analyze simple rectifier circuits based on diodes and simple amplifiers based on bipolar junction transistors and operational amplifiers. PREREQUISITES Linear algebra, complex numbers. TEACHING METHODS The teaching is divided in theoretical lessons (48 hours) and in four laboratory lessons (12 hours). SYLLABUS/CONTENT Basic notions on electromagnetism; limits of validity of lumped circuit theroy; voltage, current, flux, charge and power; Maxwell equations. Bipoles, N-poles and two-ports; Kirchhoff laws. Fundamental adinamic bipoles (resistor, ideal generators); connection in series and in parallel; resistive dividers; Thévenin and Norton models; analysis of liner circuits in DC steady state. Graph theory and application to electric circuits; superposition principle; Tellegen's theorem. Fundamental dynamic components (capacitor, inductor and coupled inductors). Analysis of circuits in AC steady state; phasors; impedance and admittance; complex power; triphase systems; mean and RMS value of periodic quantities. PN junction and diode; use as rectifiers and voltage regulators; bipolar junction transistor; use as amplifier and switch;operational amplifiers. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY G. ASSESSMENT METHODS The exam allows verifying the ability of the student to summarize exhaustively one of the topics of the teaching and to analyze linear circuits at steady state and simple circuits containing semiconductor devices.
