AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES This course aims to develop students’ ability to read maths texts in English and improve students’ English communicative skills in the field of maths. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES This course introduces students to basic English phraseology, syntax and style needed for a variety of maths topics so as to develop students’ written and spoken comprehension. TEACHING METHODS Twelve weekly two-hour classes in the first semester. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course will be dealing, from a linguistic point of view, with the following topics: alphabets and English varieties, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, linear algebra, mathematical arguments, functions, sequences and series, prime numbers, probability and statistics. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY The necessary material will be made available for download through Aulaweb.
