OVERVIEW

The course, scheduled in the second half of the accademic year, aims at introducing students to technological innovation in civil engineering, and at proposing an integrated view of structural design, taking into account both structural and non-structural performances such as resistance to fire, durability, building site management, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course addresses innovative solutions in structural design, related to both structural systems (such as mixed steel-concrete structures) and non-structural elements (such as façade and curtain panels). Moreover, it analyses special performance of structures, such as robustness, resistance to fire, durability, building site management, cost efficiency, environmental sustainability, etc…introducing students to and integrated view of structural design.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course addresses the following topics:

  1. Introduction to advanced and contemporary construction materials and structural systems
  2. Detailed analysis and design of mixed steel-concrete structures
  3. Design criteria of structures for special performances
  4. Principles of environmental sustainability in structural design

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons

Monographic seminars with external experts

Experimental tests in lab
