The actions and effects induced by dynamic phenomena play an essential role in the study of civil constructions, which may be subject to vibratory phenomena induced by a wide range of oscillatory actions, with deterministic or random nature. These actions may cause structural damages and collapse according to mechanisms that are very different from those ruling static problems. Among the dynamic actions, those induced by the earthquake are at the same time one of the most complex and crucial phenomena in structural design.
The course aims to provide the tools to study the dynamic response of structural systems, supplying the basis for the definition of representation models of structural systems and actions, and the criteria for calculating the response in the time and frequency domain. With regard to the dynamic action of the earthquake, it will supply the tools to study the action and the seismic effects on civil constructions.
