OVERVIEW

Linguistics as the scientific study of language. Human science and empirical principle. Historical linguistics, or diachronic linguistics, linguistic Geography. "Primitive" elements in languages. Languages and ways of speaking. Linguistic system and structuralism. Generativistic model. Historic references; different forms in natural languages and development. (Drift). Language convergence and divergence. Interlinguistics, methods and perspectives. Textuality. Attributes and Grice's maxims.

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The students will be introduced to various topics not only in linguistic analysis but also in  linguistic theory. From linguistic structure to its application by language users, they will be able to appreciate the different ways to analyze the texts and their juxtaposition (intertextuality).

Linguistics as Human science and empirical principle. Diachronic linguistics, Researching methods; historic references. Generativistic model. Analysis and Structuralism. De Saussure, Form and Substance; Synchronic and Diachronic Approaches. Paradigmatic and Syntagmatic Relations. Gestalt. Prague Linguistic Circle and function of elements within language. Textuality. Attributes and Grice's maxims. Language and languages, the ways of speaking; the linguistic system. Convergences and divergences between languages. Interlinguistics, methods and perspectives.
