AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main aim of the course of Clinical Pathology I is to describe and analyze in detail a) the cellular and non cellular components of blood, the generation of the different  blood lineages and thrombocytes; b) Blood functions and the alterations of cellular and biochemical parameters in pathophysiologic conditions; c) the laboratory methods applied to determine blood alterations; c) pathogenetic mechanims of the main blood diseases such as anemia, neoplastic diseases and alteration of the plasmacellular components within the blood and bone marrow.

The student has a) to know the blood composition and its functions; b) to identify the methods applied to evaluate biological parameters of blood; c) to know the cellular and serum parameters and the methods to evaluate these parameters during the diseases that hit the erythrocytes and leukocytes; d) to identify on the basis of a specific parameter the disease and in which phase, among those analyzed in the program, may be present.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral examination

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The student will be examined answering three queries on procedures and biological parameters relevant in pathological/clinical conditions that are subject of the course. The examination will be passed if the student knows and is able to assess which biological parameters should be studied in those pathological/clinical conditions.
