Basics of fetal development. Physiology and basics of pathologies related to pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium. Contraception. Main gynecological diseases, including malignancies. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the lessons the student will know: 1) the female reproductive physiology 2) physiological mechanism of childbirth 3) the main obstetrical complications 4) contraception 5) the main gynecological pathologies, including gynecological cancer TEACHING METHODS Lectures with projections of audiovisual material SYLLABUS/CONTENT Define a monitoring plan for low-risk pregnancy Acquire notions of prenatal Diagnostics Framing and evaluating conditions of risk in pregnancy Know the main pathologies of the first trimester: abortion and ectopic pregnancy Management of emergencies in the third stage of labour: placenta previa, abruptio placenta, postpartum hemorrhage. Human reproduction, contraception, and sexually transmitted diseases Menstrual disorders and dysmenorrhea, postmenopausal bleeding Prevention, screening, and early detection of gynecological cancers, including breast cancer Knowing how to instrument a pap smear Major gynecological benign diseases: fibroids, ovarian cysts, prolapse. Basics of major gynecological surgical procedures. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY all teaching materials (slides, videos) will be given to the students. To further deepen the topics: Pescetto, De Cecco, Ragni. Manuale di Ostetricia e Ginecologia SEU ED.2015 or any other Obstetrics and Gynecological textbook in use for students.
