OVERVIEW

Il corso illustra le metodologie per lo studio delle opere idrauliche in un contesto antropico al fine di progettare manufatti e infrastrutture sia in condizioni operative normali che in condizioni di funzionamento eccezionale.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Il corso illustra le metodologie per lo studio delle opere idrauliche in un contesto antropico al fine di progettare manufatti e infrastrutture sia in condizioni operative normali che in condizioni di funzionamento eccezionale.

TEACHING METHODS

The lectures are organized in about 60 hours of theory and in about 36 hours of practice in order to deal with applied problems on the main topics of the course. The students will draw up a technical report on the design of a storm water drainage system that will be discussed during the oral examination

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The main contents of the course are the following:

  • Basic knowledge of open channel and pressure flow hydraulics. Design and analysis of small hydraulic structures and devices.
  • Water supply systems and the main hydraulic connection devices.
  • Open channel flow, estimation of channel-conveyance capacity with respect to the design flow, interactions between channel flow and anthropic structures (such as bridge, culvert, crossing)
  • Basic knowledge of hydrology and hydrologic processes (hydrologic balance, watershed characteristics, etc.)
  • Urban drainage network, design storm.
  • Design and analysis of urban drainage system under peak design flow

EXAM DESCRIPTION

In order to have access to the final oral examination, the student is required to pass a written exam; further the student organized in small groups (2-3 persons) draw up a technical report that is discussed as an integral part of the oral examination.

The written exam required the resolution of exercises related to the topic presented in the first part of the course (open channel and pressure flow hydraulics). The written exam aim at verifying both the basic theoretic knowledge and the skill to solve applied problems.

The oral examination aims at testing the technical-engineering skills acquired during the course. The discussion of the technical report is integral part of the oral examination.
