The course is divided into 3 modules:
- the first concerns the sources, methodologies and tools for the study of the region in chrono-spatial terms
- the second module concerns a case study (from the fluvial region of San Lorenzo to Québec and the Canadian macro-region) considered in its expansion in successive historical periods;
- the third module (Two territorial systems in comparison: Liguria and the Pavese) concerns the comparative chrono-spatial reading of two neighboring regional cases, and is supplemented by educational
The course, carried out through lectures and interactive lectures, seminars and excursions for the direct observation of the phenomena on the ground, intends to pursue the following objectives: - knowledge of the conceptual bases (methods, sources and tools) in the analysis of the phenomena at different regional scales ; - knowledge of the process of construction of some territories throughout history; - analysis and direct interpretation of geographical locations of major historical, cultural and tourist interest.
Knowing and knowing how to use the sources, methodologies and tools useful for the study of the region, considered with particular regard to the analysis of the processes of territorial transformation over time.
To know and be able to critically interpret the case studies analyzed in the second in the third module, always with regard to the sources, the methodologies and the tools used.
Knowing and knowing how to use the sources, methodologies and tools useful for the study of the region through a methodology based on a systemic approach, but also oriented on the semiotic and geo-philosophical meaning of the places.
Knowledge of the lexicon that underlies geography, acquired in general in the institutional courses of geography carried out in the three-year degree courses.

- the first module concerns the sources, methodologies and tools useful for the study of the region, considered with particular regard to the analysis of the processes of territorial transformation over time;
- the second module (from the fluvial region of San Lorenzo al Québec and the Canadian macro-region) is monographic and is dedicated to a case study, considered in its process of multi-scalar expansion, occurred in successive historical periods, analyzed through moments of indirect observation based on bibliographic, statistical, cartographic, literary and iconic sources;
- the third module (Two territorial systems in comparison: Liguria and the Pavese) is also monographic and always concerns the chrono-spatial reading of these two neighboring regional cases, in their diversity, affinity, analyzed not only through moments indirect observation based on bibliographic, statistical, cartographic, literary and iconic sources, but also through educational outlets aimed at the direct observation of the places and symbolic landscapes that contribute to their regional identity.
The bibliographic references will be indicated during the course of the modules.

In the official appeals the exam takes place in oral form.
The assessment of the degree of profit is done by proposing for each module an argument, which the student must develop, linking it, if possible, to other topics of the same module or other modules under examination. For students attending, there will be tests in progress.
