The module is introductory and intends to provide the basic notions of applied acoustics preliminary to the second part concerning acoustic design in the building sector. At the end of the module the student will have acquired the basic notions to be able to understand the second part of the course.
The course consists of lectures.
Elements of physical acoustics, the human ear, acoustic measurements, acoustic comfort evaluation indexes, characterization of sound sources, propagation of sound in free field and in presence of obstacles, spectral analysis of a noise, physiological effects of noise.

Oral exam.
During the oral exam, for the topics covered in class (Physical Acoustics, Acoustic Measures, Architectural Acoustics, Building Acoustics, Noise Control, Acoustic Standards) questions are formulated to ascertain the student's comprehension. Alongside the theoretical elements, the examination tends to favor the application and engineering aspects.
