AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES To know and to handle oneself in a critical way regarding the main paradigms of sociological description of deviance and criminality, as well as social control dispositives. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES In particular, the lectures aims to: - reconstruct the main theories of deviance and criminality; - investigate social control and marginalization devices of individuals. At the end of the course, the students will acquire adequate knowledge and interpretative tools to critically analyze deviant phenomena and of social exclusion, and to develop empirical research in this field. TEACHING METHODS - Frontal lessons - Exercises/small groups activities - Classroom discussions on the topics dealt with, starting from the analysis of case studies. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The first part of the course will analyse the main theories on deviance and social control and develop a critical evaluation of academic ideas as translated into the real-world environment. The second part of the course will concentrate on structure and working practices on deviance and control, focussing specifically on the migrant and homeless people cases. Student will be encouraged to work together on group projects and to develop skills in critical reading and analysis on deviance and social control practices through classroom discussions of case studies.
