OVERVIEW

The course offers a literary, cultural, social and historical panorama of Sephardic culture. We will analyze the authors and the most significant works of the Sephardic literature written in Judeo-Spanish over the centuries, from the expulsion of the Jews from Spain (1492) to modernity, with particular attention to the production of the XX-XI centuries.

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Through course attendance and individual study, students will acquire the tools to:

- Read and translate literary passages into Judeo-Spanish;

- Comment, contextualize and analyze the proposed literary texts;

- Know the historical, linguistic and literary dynamics of a little-known expression of Hispanic letters.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons in Spanish with the help of multimedia material; individual study of the books in the bibliography; study of the material in aulaweb.

The exam consists of an interview in Spanish on the topics covered.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

 

The student must demonstrate knowledge of the bibliography and course notes (for attending students), and of being able to read, translate, comment and contextualize a proposed literary text. Any further information will be provided in class and communicated through aulaweb.
