AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES This module aims to introduce students to the scientific study of the Swedish language, in particular morphology, syntax and lexicology, and to bring students to the A2/B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES "Swedish Morphology", linguistics module ("theoretical module") made up of 30 classroom lectures equivalent to 9 ECTS that can be obtained by passing the exams related to the theoretical module and to the practical course. The "theoretical" module consists of an introduction to the morphology of Swedish, followed by a few notes on lexicology and on syntax. More specifically: words and lexemes, basics of morphology, morphemes and allomorphs, parts of speech, Swedish morphosyntax, grammatical categories and values, word formation processes and rules, Swedish lexicology, derivation, compounds, phrasal verbs. The "practical" course is made up of 80 classes. The main topics will be: noun and adjective declension (advanced rules), subjunctions and subordinate clauses, word order, vocabulary and phraseology, reflexive and non-reflexive pronouns, strong and irregular verbs, passive, text reading and translation, listening comprehension. At the end of the practical course students will be able to understand texts of medium difficulty and speak in Swedish on any topic of everyday life that does not involve specialist skills. They will also have learned the basic concepts of Swedish morphology, in particular morphosynthax and word formation. PREREQUISITES Swedish Language I TEACHING METHODS Swedish Language II is divided into two parts: a one-semester linguistics module ("modulo teorico"), which is held in the second semester, and a two-semester practical language module ("modulo pratico" or "esercitazioni" or "lettorato"). The linguistics module is made up of weekly classroom lectures (3 hours a week over 10 weeks in the second semester). The practical module is made up of weekly classes (4 hours a week over 20 weeks, i.e. 10 weeks per semester). Attendance is not compulsory but strongly recommended. Class schedule SWEDISH LANGUAGE II EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The linguistics module (only for 9 CFU) is assessed through an oral exam. There are two sittings in each of the three exam sessions. The practical module is assessed through a written paper (one sitting in each of the three exam sessions) and an oral exam (two sittings in each session). The written paper consists of a listening comprehension, a reading comprehension, a short composition and a grammar test (up to ten different exercises). The oral exam on the theoretical module consists of the analysis of a Swedish sentence: identification of morphemes and their functions/values. The oral exam on the practical module consists of a grammar test and of a conversation in Swedish. ASSESSMENT METHODS Swedish Language II is divided into two parts: a one-semester linguistics module ("modulo teorico"), which is held in the second semester, and a two-semester practical module ("modulo pratico" or "esercitazioni" or "lettorato"). Each component ("modulo pratico" and "modulo teorico") is assessed separately. The practical module is assessed at the end of the second semester through a written exam paper (grammar, vocabulary, writing, listening and comprehension, reading and comprehension) and an oral exam. The linguistics module is assessed through an oral exam at the end of the first semester. Students are required to analyse words, phrases and sentences from different types of texts. The final mark is calculated as follows: 33% (of the overall mark) is the written practical part; 33% (of the overall mark) is the oral practical part; 33% (of the overall mark) is the linguistics part.
