OVERVIEW

The course has as main objectives: Acquiring knowledge of the causes, behavior and prevention of infectious and degenerative diseases and their health and social impacts. During the course the elements to understand the Italian health organization with particular emphasis to the Health Promotion and Education for the health of populations are given.

At the end of the course the student will have acquired the knowledge necessary for the prevention of degenerative and infectious diseases and for the health promotion.

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

Knowing the causes, symptoms, epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases and degenerative diseases (cardiovascular diseases and cancer) and be able to educate the public to know the value and practice of preventive measures (disinfection and vaccine prophylaxis)

Know about Environmental Hygiene issues (pollution, water hygiene, food hygiene, environmental hygiene and confined to school)

Knowing how to design a project for health education

Frontal lessons and group activities to develop the subjects dealt with during the class lessons.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Introduction to hygiene. Principles and Strategies of Health Promotion. Epidemiology and types of epidemiological studies. Prevention Concepts: Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Epidemiology and prophylaxis of infectious diseases. National Prevention Plain. and National Immunization Plain. Epidemiology and prevention of degenerative diseases, in particular cardiovascular diseases and cancers. Hygiene school. Hygiene confined environment. First aid Brief.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Obligatory written examination consisting of 30 “closed-answer” questions with only one correct answer (one point for each correct aswer) and of one “open” question. In the open question will be evaluated: the level of knowledge, the degree of detail and the use of appropriate language. Oral examination on request by the student, in order to improve the score obtained in the written examination. 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written format has been adopted in order to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the entire course is assessed in an objective manner. This modality is deemed to be able to correctly evaluate the achievement of both the general and specific training objectives.
