12 ECTS course consisting of a Theoretical Module, Consecutive Interpreting,Technical Translation, Translation Revision and Proofreading.
The course provides students with the tools for metalinguistic analysis, with a special focus on specialized texts, in order to enhance students' translation and interpreting skills between Italian and Spanish.
The course aims at providing students with knowledge and skills in order to understand the theoretical and practical basis of translation and interpreting. The following will be dealt: technical and scientific translation, translation revision and proofreading tecniques (including Machine Translation pre and post editing), sight translation, mediation and consecutive interpreting. The theoretical module will provide students with wkowledge and skills in order to understand the theoretical and practical basis of audiovisual translation.
Specific aims:
To know and understand the interpreting and translation challenges in a holistic perspective and basing on relevant problems and strategies.
To know the interpreting and translation professional market, with special emphasis on code of conducts and ethics.
To know how to identify and classify translation strategies, with a special interest in self-assessment and peer assessment.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
Lectures and interpreting/translation practice, including team work.
The theoretical module will deal with audiovisual translation.
The practical modules will consist of tecnichal translation, revision and interpreting assingnments and tasks.

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION
The technical and scientific translation module will be assessed at the end of the course by carrying out a remote translation assignment. The same for the translation revision and proofreading assignment at the end of the module which will also be carried out remotely. The interpreting module will be assessed at the end of the course and is composed of two parts: consecutive interpreting es-it (approximately 3 minutes) and a sight translation it-es
The theoretical module will be assessed by asking students to carry out a practical work concerning audiovisual translation. The theoretical part will be assesser by an oral exam based on the following text: Juan Pedro Rica Peromingo (2016), Aspectos lingüísticos y técnicos de la traducción audiovisual (TAV), Berna: Peter Lang (for students not attending classes) and notes of the lessons (only for students attending classes).
The following will be assessed: adequacy, functionality, accuracy, and reliability. Both contents and the general approach (i.e. paralinguistic and non verbal communication in the case of interpreting) will be assessed.
For the Theoretical Module, the following parameters will be taken into account: adequacy and accuracy of the Spanish language used and the competence and skill to critically review the bibliography read and studied.
