OVERVIEW

The course will develop a critical approach to contemporary migrations and will provide a general knowledge about main literature on the topic.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course will aid to frame migration as a social phenomenon, describing causes, effects and dynamics

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

- develop a critical knowledge on contemporary migrations

- analysing relationship between policies and migrations

- realize micro-research experiences and observations on migrations 

TEACHING METHODS

The course opts for a teaching method focussed on participation, direct experience, knowledge co-production

The course will use films and images produced by the Laboratory for Visual Sociology

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course will develop the following subjects:

a) causes and effects of migration; b) migration and labour market; c) gender and migration; e) migration, citizenship and social movements; f) migrations and borders

- An article, chosen by student,   from Mondi Migranti Review (last 5 years)

- For students attendings classes: Discussion on a) a text elaborated by students; b) assigned books and articles

- oral exam on books and articles for students non attending classes  

ASSESSMENT METHODS

For students attending classes: the course will assess the students ability to  articulate sociological knowledge with micro research experience on migrations

For all students: the course will assess the students ability to apply sociological knowledge on migration as social phenomenon
