Through the critical reading of classical texts and the analysis of particular issues and / or cases, it aims to develop specific ethical skills. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at clarifying the moral implications of communication, through the analysis of various theories and models of communication from Aristotle to the contemporary debate. In the application field, students study the problems and the rules of communication in the media, in the institutions, in the medical relationship, in advertising, in cultural mediation, in the company, in working groups, through the analysis of deontological codes, protocols, lines -guides and special case-studies. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES 1. Knowledge: the relationship between ethics and communication ethics; the main models of communication ethics; ethics and professional deontology. 2. Capabilities: ability to analyze significant cases from an ethical point of view and to find solutions to ethical dilemmas in the communication. 3. Skills: in the laboratory activity: organizing a group work; design of a ppt presentation; advertising a workshop. PREREQUISITES Know the development of the mass media. Have attention to the problems of information and communication. Take an interest in ethical and deontological issues. TEACHING METHODS In the first part of the course the professor will give theoretical lectures. The second part will have a seminar organization. Some dilemmatic issues of communication ethics will be proposed and analyzed in a laboratory form. Group workshops will be organized on individual cases of applied ethics. For the students who will participate in the workshops, also through AulaWeb, it will be possible to replace part of the oral exam with the discussion of a paper or a presentation, whose title is to be agreed with the teacher. Students are invited to register in Aulaweb: Communication ethics. Seminar works and distance support activities, for students who can not regularly attend classes, are organized in Aulaweb. Tools: PC with Video projector, Internet, DVD, AulaWeb. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course is focused on "identity and communication". The syllabus is divided into three phases in which 1. we will present the theories and models of communication and communication ethics; 2. we will discuss the managing and manipulation of the emotions in relation with ethics. 3. we will investigate how the rhetoric of emotions is used in different contexts (journalism and photojournalism, public communication, social communication, advertising, fiction and web). All students are required to produce a written report on one of the essays collected in The Handbook of Communication Ethics, Routledge, NY 2011 before the oral examination. The Evaluation ends with the oral exam. ASSESSMENT METHODS 1. Acquired knowledge is ascertained through the written report and in the oral exam. 2. The competences, also expressive and linguistic, will be verified in the report and in the oral discussion. 3. Skills will be verified in the presentation and in the workshop (as a midterm test).
