OVERVIEW

The course aims to analyze in detail, within a general historical and literary vision, some fundamental works both for their aesthetic value and for the innovative and fundamental quality of new ways of conceiving literary work: Diderot: La Religieuse; Balzac: La Peau de chagrin, Proust: Du côté de chez Swann

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

At the end of the course the student knows in a satisfactory way the general problems and single aspects of the history of literature. He is able to understand and translate texts in the original language, he has acquired the basic theoretical knowledge necessary to face the critical interpretation of their contents and is able to comment and expose texts according to specific methodologies for the analysis of the literary text .

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student knows the general lines of literary history, is able to recognize the works of the great authors of French literature, knows how to express himself in an essential but correct French, knows how to relate the works with the historical era, can distinguish and define the characteristics of the great literary movements.

PREREQUISITES

The student must be able, with the help of the teacher, to read texts in French, must have knowledge of history and geography of Europe, must be able to recognize the Roman numerals and know how to relate them with the centuries. It must be able to express itself in Italian and in a basic French

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course aims to analyze in detail, within a general historical and literary vision, some fundamental works both for their aesthetic value and for the innovative and fundamental quality of new ways of conceiving literary work: Mme de Staël, Benjamin Constant, Chateaubriand, Lamartine, Vigny, Hugo, Balzac, Stendhal, Baudelaire, Flaubert, Zola, Maupassant, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Mallarmé, Apollinaire.  

The 18 hours of in-depth study planned for the second semester will have as their object an excursus on the theory of the French novel in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Excerpts from theoretical texts (essays and paratesti) of the main literary movements and authors will be read and analyzed in class.

Oral exam

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will consist of an oral test in French on the course contents through questions from the Commission. The candidate will have to choose an anthology extract of those in the program and will have twenty minutes to prepare. Following exposure of the contents of the text will be put to the candidate at least one question for each of the areas and periods treated. In examination assessment will be taken into account, as well as knowledge of the program to be performed (topics covered in class, reading and analysis of texts proposed during the lessons, the materials made available on aulaweb platform and readings of full texts), also the exhibition and accuracy skills in the use of the specific discipline language.
