The course will deal with the African American tradition from Colonial America to the contemporary period. It will focus on the oeuvre of Toni Morrison with specific reference to Sula and A Mercy, the two novels that will be analyzed and commented on during the lessons.
The course is in English, therefore a good level of English (B2 or higher) is required

ANGLO-AMERICAN LITERATURE
For students who will attend the course the evaluation will be based on both to their active participation in the lessons (25%) and the final exam (75%)
For the other students the evaluation will be based entirely on the final exam.
There will be a written exam (3 hours), which can be taken in June-July, September-October 2021 or January-February 2022. The exam is in two parts: Part 1 - Short Answers (5 questions, answers must be at least 12-15 lines long)
Part 2 – Essay Question (short essay – one page long – on a specific topic)
The exam will be in English.
Students will have to show their knowledge of the authors presented, the texts analyzed and their cultural context. Students’ critical/theorical approach and their ability in reading a literary texts will be also tested.
