CODE 65044 ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021 CREDITS 12 cfu anno 2 TRADUZIONE E INTERPRETARIATO 8743 (LM-94) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR L-LIN/07 LANGUAGE Spanish TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER Annual TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW 12 ECTS course consisting of a Theoretical Module, Simultaneous Interpreting, Legal Translation and Business-Financial Translation. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course provides students with the tools for metalinguistic analysis, with a special focus on specialized texts, in order to enhance students' translation and interpreting skills between Italian and Spanish. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at providing students with sound knowledge and skills in order to understand the theoretical and practical basis of translation and interpreting. The following will be dealt with: legal translation, business-economic translation, simultaneous interpreting and court interpreting. Specific aims: Develop knowledge and train skills in professional translation and interpreting from both a theoretical and a practical point of view, combining research perspectives and professional standards. Develop self-assessment skills. At the end of the course students will be able to: identify and solve translation problems in a strategic and effective manner, also taking into account as many contextual and situational variables as possible for each assignment; apply knowledge, techniques and tools learnt in a functional and useful way according to the communicative situation and context; autonomously organise and network with other colleagues in order to apply their competences in a cooperative way. PREREQUISITES Lingua e Traduzione Spagnola 1 LM TEACHING METHODS Lectures and interpreting/translation practice, including team work. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Theoretical module: theory and practice of court interpreting, with consolidation of consecutive interpreting skills. Simulations of interpreter-mediated court hearings. Legal translation: translation practice of legal texts (also using CAT tools) combined with training in translation-related soft skills. Business-financial translation: translation practice of business-financial texts (also using CAT tools) combined with training in translation-related soft skills. Legal translation module: a translation test from and into Spanish, after the submission of individual dossiers (“carpetas”) containing all the assignments carried out during the course. Business-financial translation module: a translation test from and into Spanish, after the submission of individual dossiers (“carpetas”) containing all the assignments carried out during the course. Interpreting module: an simultaneous interpreting exercise from and into Spanish. ASSESSMENT METHODS The following will be assessed: adequacy, functionality, accuracy, and reliability. Both contents and the general approach (i.e. paralinguistic and non-verbal communication in the case of interpreting) will also be taken into account. Continuous assessment (peer evaluation, feedback from outsiders in simulations, etc.), and both written and oral final tests.
