12 ECTS course consisting of a Theoretical Module, Consecutive Interpreting, Legal Translation and Business-Financial Translation.
The course provides students with the tools for metalinguistic analysis, with a special focus on specialized texts, in order to enhance students' translation and interpreting skills between Italian and Spanish.
The course aims at providing students with knowledge and skills in order to understand the theoretical and practical basis of translation and interpreting. The following modules will be taught: legal translation, business-economic translation, consecutive interpreting and court interpreting.
Specific aims:
Develop knowledge and train skills in professional translation and interpreting from both a theoretical and a practical point of view, combining research perspectives and professional standards.
Develop self-assessment skills.

Lectures and interpreting/translation practice, including team work.
Theoretical module: theory and practice of court interpreting, with consolidation of consecutive interpreting skills. Simulations of interpreter-mediated court hearings.
Legal translation: translation practice of legal texts (also using CAT tools) combined with training in translation-related soft skills.
Business-financial translation: translation practice of business-financial texts (also using CAT tools) combined with training in translation-related soft skills.
Interpreting: simultaneous interpreting practice from and into Spanish combined with training in interpreting-related soft skills.

Semester 1 and 2.
SPANISH LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION
Theoretical module: a simulation of interpreter-mediated court interpreting assignment and a question on the theoretical contents.
Legal translation module: a translation test from and into Spanish, after the submission of individual dossiers (“carpetas”) containing all the assignments carried out during the course.
Business-financial translation module: a translation test from and into Spanish, after the submission of individual dossiers (“carpetas”) containing all the assignments carried out during the course.
Interpreting module: an consecutive interpreting exercise from Spanish into Italian and a sight translation from Italian into Spanish.
The following will be assessed: adequacy, functionality, accuracy, and reliability. Both contents and the general approach (i.e. paralinguistic and non-verbal communication in the case of interpreting) will also be taken into account.
Continuous assessment (peer evaluation, feedback from outsiders in simulations, etc.), and both written and oral final tests.
Semester 1 lessons will be taught remotely via Teams and Aulaweb platforms. Semester 2 lessons, as long as the general health situation allows it, will be taught face-to-face.
