The course gives an overview of the main methods for planning logistic netwoorks and transportation systems.
To provide the student with the methodological tools to be able to model, analyse, manage and control transportation and logistic systems.
To show the main decision problems related with planning and managing transportation and logistic systems.
To introduce the main software tools for solving decision problems in the area of transportation and logistic systems.
Lectures, with some exercises developed in lab with specific software.
Introduction to transportation and logistic systems. Strategic and tactical planning in logistic systems (location, network design e service network design problems). Operational planning in logistic systems (vehicle routing and bin packing problems). Urban transport planning (traffic assignment, user equilibrium and system optimum). Dynamic models and control for road traffic systems. Introduction to maritime transportation and planning problems in seaport container terminals.

PLANNING METHODS FOR TRASPORTATION SYSTEMS AND LOGISTICS
The exam is oral. It is also possible to develop a project (team work).
The professor will evaluate if the student has learnt new knowledge in the area of modelling and planning transportation and logistic systems by asking him/her some questions about the specific topics dealt with in the Course.
