The course consists of lectures, using presentations and slides available to the students. During the course, the degree of learning achieved by the students will be assessed from time to time during the lectures. During the lessons questions will be asked to verify both the previous knowledge and the level of understanding and the ability to link the different topics of the course.
Relationships between insect pests and their host plants. Trophic activity, direct and indirect damage. Symptoms and causes favouring insect pests outbreaks. Main invasive indigenous and exotic insect pests in the urban environment: distribution, bio-ethology and control strategies.
Control methods, with particular attention to low environmental impact strategies. Trunk injections. Natural and biological control.
Teaching material (e.g. PowerPoint presentations, articles for further information and critical readings) will be available to the students.
