It uses authentic material taken from a personality theory course at an American university. During the course the students will become acquainted with a new language and register by studying the lessons of an American professor and will acquire the ability to read effectively in English as well as learning specialised academic terms AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims at giving students familarity with specialised lexis so as to help them understand research articles in English with greater confidence. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Lingua e Traduzione Inglese is a course designed to help students become acquainted and familiar with academic English of a psychological nature. The laboratory work in small groups using authentic material from psychology classes will enhance the reading skills of the students and consolidate their lexis. PREREQUISITES Students should have a B1 level of English to be able to tackle with confidence the articles to be studied. Therefore students without recent B1 certification or better should do the CLAT B1 test online. Students who fail to pass this test are then required to follow the CLAT B1 online course in the first semester and take the B1 ttest again at the end of the course before the English Language and Translation course begins in the second semester. TEACHING METHODS Lessons and small groups in the laboratory with access and reference to online material SYLLABUS/CONTENT We will be using e texts by Professor George Boeree which address psychoanalytical, behaviorist, and humanist schools of thought. There will be 2 hour laboratory sessions for all the students in small groups based on these texts with additional material to help reinforce fundamental grammar issues. Students will also be encouraged to read around the subject in an automonous fashion so as to acquire greater confidence and familiarity with the subjects dealt with.
