The course aims to provide basic concepts for a sociological reading of educational processes, not only within school systems but also outside of them, presenting the main topics covered in the Sociology of Education. Particular attention will be given to the processes of socialization within the different family forms, to socialization among peers and to the presence of second generations of immigrants in educational contexts

Providing introductory knowledge of the discipline, starting from some of those thematic fields that are most important in relation to educator's role
AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
The goal is to provide the students with the basic tools and knowledges for a sociological understanding of the educational processes (inside and outside school sistem), developing the critical mind and the ability to analyze the social context beyond prejudices and stereotyp
The lessons will be provided in modules, focusing each the main course’s themes; experts will be invited to take part to each module. During the lessons, the students will work on the course materials uploaded on aulaweb by the teacher and in working groups. These articles or slides are to be considered real study materials
Videos and images produced by the visual sociology laboratory (DISFOR) will be exploited as well
Different macro -argumetns will be developed: The sociological study of educational processes; socialization and identity; theories of childhood; inequalities in education processes; changes about family in the XIX, XX century; migration processes and education system

At the beginning of the course a virtual class named Sociology of Education will be created

The tests will be carried out in order to verify the understanding of the topics addressed; due to the impossibility of carrying out the lessons in the presence, these tests will be proposed through the aulaweb platform.
The final oral exam with open questions, in which the student will have to demonstrate knowledge of clear theoretical references and precise concepts on the foundations of the sociology of education and on the different topics covered during the course. In addition, competence in the specific use of disciplinary terminology used to analyze educational phenomena will be assessed
