AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The main objective of the course is to enable future teachers of nursery school to understand that health education is a primary educational need and must be included among the educational activities carried out in infant and nursery schools. Further aims are to foster an awareness of the importance of the prevention of both infectious diseases and chronic-degenerative illnesses and to transmit the basic concepts of health at school. At the end of the course, students must possess adequate knowledge of the principal concepts of health promotion and the prevention of infectious diseases, particularly those of greatest relevance to the first years of life. They must therefore show that they have understood that prevention is fundamental to safeguarding the health of both the individual and the community. Moreover, they must be able to apply the knowledge that they have acquired and must have the skills required in order to design and construct educational intervention for health promotion or disease prevention in the infant school or nursery school.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons and group activities to develop the subjects dealt with during the class lessons.

If it is not possible to carry out the frontal lessons, for health reasons, the lessons will take place in streaming mode.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The concept of health. Health promotion. Health education as "transversal" teaching in school curricula. Elements of epidemiology. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Epidemiology and prevention of the principal infectious diseases, with particular reference to those of childhood. National Prevention Plain. and National Immunization Plain. Notions of the epidemiology and prevention of chronic-degenerative diseases. Promotion of healthy lifestyles in childhood. Planning of programs for health promotion and disease prevention in the infant school and nursery school. School hygiene. First aid tips.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Obligatory written examination consisting of 30 “closed-answer” questions with only one correct answer (one point for each correct aswer) and of one “open” question. In the open question will be evaluated: the level of knowledge, the degree of detail and the use of appropriate language. Oral examination on request by the student, in order to improve the score obtained in the written examination. 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written format has been adopted in order to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the entire course is assessed in an objective manner. This modality is deemed to be able to correctly evaluate the achievement of both the general and specific training objectives.
