AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Propaedeutic Laboratory of the first year of the course of Biomedical Laboratory Techniques aims at imparting to the students some basic knowledge: carrying out some tests independently of clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulation and blood component processing at a transfusion service

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

• Test tubes and anticoagulants
• Automatic and manual pipettes, use of manual suction devices.
• Peripheral blood smear
• Coloring by M. Giemsa
• Use of the microscope and identification of the figurative elements of the blood
• Plate serological test (Treponema Pallidum) with antibody titration
• The liquor, use of the Thoma or Nageotte chamber. Description and dilution
• D.D test, scalar dilutions and agglutination on plate
• Howell test with clot formation in water bath
• Acceptance and evaluation of suitability of a whole blood bag
• Blood component processing simulation
• Simulation of the storage and correct conservation of the various blood components
• Description of the various types of test tubes to perform the law exams
• Detailed simulation of a plt in-pool processing from buffy-coats to assembly
• for ABO / RH / FENOTIPO until correct storage
• Evaluation of a blood count and count report to calculate the platelet yield of the plt pool from buffy coats

• preparation of a calibration curve for colorimetric tests
