OVERVIEW

The course deals with the issue of monitoring, both of the territory and the built environment, through geomatic surveying techniques, such as photogrammetry, also from drone and laser scanner. Attention is paid both to the elaboration of measurement campaigns and the interpretation of results.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course aims to provide the theoretical and practical tools for monitoring both the territory and the built environment.

The course will deal with useful criteria for an optimal design of punctual monitoring, as well as integrated surveying techniques extended to the area to be monitored, such as laser scanning and photogrammetry also from drone, and the related phases of processing and analysis of results.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Surveying techniques addressed in Geomatics will be deepened, using Level and Total Station, while GNSS survey will be introduced for Post-Processing, to monitor points with a high level of accuracy. Photogrammetry and laser scanner will be added as areal measurement techniques to be integrated according to the specificity of the object of monitoring.
Some in-depth studies will be addressed in particular to an optimal design of the measurement campaigns, to the relative processing phase, and advanced analysis of the results.

PREREQUISITES

The concepts provided by the Geomatics course are certainly closely related to what is covered in this course

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures (30 hours) and practice (20 hours) related to the campaign survey, to the calculation and to the firsts critical analysis.

For the processing procedures we give priority to the use free and open source software to provide students.

The instrumental exercises, as well as the numerical exercises, are particularly useful for learning the operational practices illustrated in the lessons, for the elaboration of measurement campaigns, and the acquisition of the necessary sensitivity for the relative analyses; both are necessary for the drafting of the technical report to be carried out in groups, an integral part of the oral exam.

The course is held in Italian but bibliographic references are available in English.

The exam will be held in Italian or English, at the student's choice, presenting the technical report carried out by the working group; in-depth analysis will complete the interview.

Teaching is planned in mixed mode (mostly remote and in-person for some exercises).

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Criteria and methodologies useful for the design, processing, and analysis of geomatic monitoring will be illustrated. In particular will be addressed the issues related to an optimal design of the survey through techniques of topographic network simulation, the processing of measurement campaigns, and the related phase of analysis of results.
The course completes the knowledge of the main surveying methodologies of the Geomatics course of the bachelor degree with the photogrammetric technique, also from drone, the laser-scanner and their integration, and introduces the precision GNSS/GPS survey in post-processing.
The measurement campaign carried out during the course, integrated with the different techniques addressed, will allow to carry out a first operational experience of which prepare in small groups of students technical presentation, in which address and analyze critically the surveys carried out.
