OVERVIEW

The Course Structural Dynamics II provides advanced tools of Structural Dynamics for the analysis of the dynamic response of structures to random excitation. Furthermore, some basics on the dynamic behaviour of nonlinear systems and structural identification are provided.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to provide the students with the tools for the statistical characterization of the dynamic response of structures to stationary random excitation. Time and frequency domain analyses are introduced, together with Monte Carlo simulation techniques and signal processing. Furthermore, basic knowledge on vibration control and for the use of techniques for the operational modal analysis of structures is provided.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides advanced tools of structural dynamics, including the random dynamic response of structures, an introduction to nonlinear dynamical systems, and some bases on experimental and operational modal analysis of structures.

The main learning outcomes of the Couse are:

  • Acquisition of the theoretical bases on the representation of random processes
  • Acquisition of the bases for the characterization of the dynamic response of structures to a random excitation
  • Knowledge of the main methods for vibration control of structures
  • Ability to apply methods for the dynamic identification of structures
  • Ability to analyse and manipulate random quantities

TEACHING METHODS

The course is organized in class teaching, computer lab and experimental laboratory.
