CODE 80574 ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 2 INGEGNERIA CIVILE 10799 (LM-23) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/09 LANGUAGE Italian (English on demand) TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 2° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW Students acquire mastery in the calculation of the structures to wind actions and sensitivity to recognize the structures sensitive to aeroelastic instability phenomena. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The module provides the fundamentals for the analysis of steel structures. The linear elastic and non-linear behavior of steel beams is analyzed as well as their stability, the bolted and welded connections, the wind and seismic loads. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Knowledge of the fundamentals of Structural dynamics is required. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of lectures during which theoretical, experimental, and numerical applications are illustrated, with examples related to real structures. The students develop, in small working groups, an assisted project report related to a real structure. SYLLABUS/CONTENT 1. Introduction to wind engineering. 2. Wind: Atmospheric circulation. Mean velocity. Turbulence. Probabilistic analysis and climatology. Mesoscale phenomena. 3. Aerodynamics: Bluff-body aerodynamics. Internal fluxes. Pedestrian comfort. Wind tunnels. CFD. 4. Dynamics: Alongwind response. 3D response of slender structures. 3D response of buildings. Wind-induced response to thunderstorms. 5. Aeroelasticity: Vortex shedding and lock-in. Alongwind wind-structure interaction. Crosswind galloping. Torsional instability. 3D aeroelasticity of slender structures. Flutter. 6. Conclusions and perspectives.
