OVERVIEW

The module is an introduction to the main themes in the history of science, with particular focus on the main traits of modern science as they emerge in the period of the (so called) Scientific Revolution. Following an interdisciplinary path, the module deals with the main issues of modern science, of its methods, limitations and of its social organization.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

he module aims to provide basic knowledge of 

  • the cultural import of the history of scientific thought, both diachronically and synchronically. 
  • the wide field of enquiry of modern science, considering the historical development of the different branches of sciences, as well as their theoretical, methodological, and epistemological background.
  • the history of scientific thought from Antiquity to modern days
  • scientific terminology and methodologies for the study of scientific texts
  • competences in the communication of scientific information
