The course is intended for students with intermediate skills in Latin language who want to improve their proficiency in translation and textual analysis in order to pass the exams of Latin language and literature.
At the end of the course, students will be able to analyse and translate Latin prose texts (medium-high level) and will know the most important lexica and bibliographic tools for the academic study of Latin.
At the end of the course, students will be able to recognise and analyse the morphosyntactic structures of literary prose texts, to interpret their linguistic and stylistic features and to satisfactorily translate them.
A mandatory prerequisite is an intermediate proficiency in Latin language. Students with scarce skills in Latin are invited to attend the beginning and intermediate Latin courses.
Through an active and participatory approach, students will improve their translation methodology by discussing and cooperatively translating different Latin texts; ICT will also be taken into account. A particular attention will be paid to the main grammar rules, that will be revised if necessary, but also to the lexical and stylistic-rhetorical level.
The lessons will hopefully be held in person, with the possibility for students to follow even at a distance (Teams - code 71vf10g).
Participation in class is highly recommended; students are encouraged to sign up to the AulaWeb webpage of the course, where all material and information will be shared throughout the term.
The course will have an active and participatory approach (workshop) based on the discussion, analysis and translation of Latin prose texts with increasing levels of complexity. All material will be shared through Aulaweb.
The texts to be translated will be provided during the semester.
Students need a Latin dictionary and a grammar for reference purposes, such as Marco Fucecchi, Luca Graverini, La lingua latina. Fondamenti di morfologia e sintassi, Le Monnier / Mondadori Education and A. Traina – G. Bernardi Pierini, Propedeutica al latino universitario, Bologna: Pàtron 1998 (ed. 6).

ADVANCED READING OF LATIN TRANSLATION
The OFA ("obblighi formativi aggiuntivi") exam will be held during the last lecture of the course.
Students attending the course as "altra attività" must attend at least 80% of the total class hours.
