The course (which is one of the related subjects of the first year of the Master's Degree Course in Ancient Sciences, Classical Languages and Literature, and consists of 40 hours of lectures, equivalent to 6 CFU) deepens specific critical-literary skills through the broad and detailed analysis of a topic in the history of Italian literature of particular relevance to classical and humanistic culture.
to know the literary tradition of the various genres of Italian literature with particular attention to their roots in the classical world, their evolution in literary history, the taste and culture of the age in which they were produced and any developments in subsequent ages; - to acquire a method of critical-scientific interpretation of the texts of Italian literature, knowing how to use the specific bibliographical tools (dictionaries, literary histories, critical editions, essays, articles, reviews, any on-line support) and the fundamental techniques of text analysis; - to be able to recognise, also through personal evaluation, the value of a text of Italian literature in the context of its author's poetics, the history of literature and Italian classical culture.
The lectures will be held in person, with the possibility for students to follow them remotely via videoconference on the Teams platform (access code: p8z6u6p). The specific programme will be preceded by a historical-literary introduction; presentation of the main lines of criticism; reading of texts and philological and critical-interpretive analysis. In the final phase of the course, essays on literary criticism will be assigned to individual students, who will prepare written reviews.

ITALIAN LITERATURE AND CLASSICAL TRADITION (LM)
The examination will be oral and the final assessment will take into account the objectives achieved, as well as the work done in reading the critical passages proposed and the reports written and discussed by the student.
Ongoing assessments: possibility of individual or group research related to the course topic and aimed at broadening methodological skills and specialist competences. Written reviews of critical essays, which will then be set out and discussed by the students. Final examination in oral form on the programme carried out and on the specific skills of a master's course. The basic skills will be given by a personal capacity of historical-critical interpretation of texts and reference to the cultural and literary context. Excellence will be achieved through a further capacity for in-depth study of the main points of literary criticism and for linking them to philological and ecdotical problems that are still being solved.
All students are asked to register on Aulaweb, where the teacher will publish information, notices and teaching materials. Those who, for valid reasons, cannot attend, are requested to contact the lecturer at the beginning of the course: for clarifications on the programme, on the working methodology, on the bibliography, it is advisable to confer with the lecturer during office hours. There is no alternative programme for non-attenders.
