Teaching is essential for students who intend in the future to work in companies active in the maritime sector or to pursue professions related to it. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, students will acquire the methodological tools and specific skills in the field of law of navigation, specifically in the context of the national and international regulations, as well as in respect of standard contract forms adopted in the practice of international maritime trade, and will be able to understand and analyze current legal issues, as well as to independently apply the notions acquired to practical scenarios. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide the students with an adequate knowledge and understanding of the main law rules governing maritime navigation. In this perspective, the teaching analyses, first and foremost, the sources, subjects and discipline of the institutes relating to maritime traffics. Particular attention will be given to the regulation of the ports system and of the services and activities performed in ports; and to the contracts in relation to the practice of international maritime trade. Finally, the typical institutes of the maritime sector (collision, salvage, general average and marine insurance) will be analysed. TEACHING METHODS As a rule, teaching is given in person. In accordance with the rules on access to university premises adopted to combat the spread of the pandemic by COVID, lectures may possibly be conducted on TEAMS. If necessary, the TEAMS code will be communicated via aulaweb. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Law sources. Ship: Construction and Sale. Bareboat Charter. Shipowner and crew. Ports and the Reform of 2016. Oral questions are usually three, on topics covered during classes (or by materials for students non attending classes). Duration of the oral examination is generally in the range of 15 minutes. Students attending in-person classes (2/3 of lectures) will be given the possibility to give one or two written tests (if positive both, students are relieved from the oral exam if the wish). The written test(s) are based exclusively on topics dealt with during classes and usually consist in 30 questions with multiple answers choices. Each correct answers gives one point. Sufficiency is reached with 18 correct answers. Persons passing written exams are not obliged to give the oral exam, if they so wish. ASSESSMENT METHODS The oral examination consists of at least two questions on topics that are representative of the entire course program plu a case solving question. The written exam, proposed only at the end of the course and addressed in particular to subjects and cases specifically taught in lessons (and therefore suitable especially for students who have attended with assiduity), consists of multiple-choice questions on the topics discussed in class and an open question on a case solving matter. More information on the written exam will be provided at class.
