Therefore, those who tackle the study and restoration of an element of the heritage will have to question about its historical relationships with the context and the prospects for its reintegration in the process of transformation and development of the city and the territory. This teaching deals with the aspects of the knowledge and restoration / management project that concern the relationship between heritage and its context. At the end of the teaching, the learner will have acquired the ability to: • set up and carry out a research program aimed at investigating and understanding the relationships of the property under study (building or complex of buildings) with the urban and territorial context, • define and represent historical and functional phases of these relationships, • identify reasons and define guidelines for the recovery of the property in relation to the urban and territorial context, • organize and explain the research carried out. TEACHING METHODS The teaching unit consists of: • ex cathedra lessons, dealing with general issues and problems related to the property chosen as the year case study; • workshop activities in which the teacher and the learners will jointly define a research program on the case study and discuss its developments; • inspections dedicated to the critical observation of the urban context of the case study and the visit of urban environments, to consider the results of recovery plans and interventions and to carry out collective reading exercises of the historic buildings and the urban fabric.
