The methods of representation of three-dimensional space on the plane are the grammar of this language. The history of representation creates a link with the past and allows us to interpret and use contemporary conventions and expressive qualities of architectural drawing. AIMS AND CONTENT AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The student will face a theoretical and practical path that will lead him to understand the projective meaning of the methods of representation (axonometric, orthogonal, perspective and quoted projections). Through these foundations, he will come to interpret and produce architectural drawings capable of communicating his/her spatial ideas. Particular attention will be paid to the history of representation that students will learn to know not only in a theoretical way, but also by analyzing the conventional characteristics of drawing and images, in addition to their expressive value through the creation of their own elaborations in the awareness of their meaning in practice and in contemporary architectural culture. The course will include the experimentation of some techniques related to the traditional tools of geometric design (squares and compasses, freehand, use of color) and digital, to encourage continuity among them in the search for one's own expressive mode. PREREQUISITES / TEACHING METHODS Teaching will consist of lectures, participated lessons and drawing practice. Some activities are proposed to create one's own work that summarizes the themes of geometric foundations, the history of representation and expressive content. Students are required to engage in an active didactic modality, which is stimulated by critical discussions, also through World Café sessions, and the exercise of expression and reception of feedback. It is thus intended to develop some soft skills of students by encouraging relationships, creativity and reflection on the learning path. THE COURSE ON AULAWEB IS UPDATED WEEKLY WITH EXERCISES AND EXPLANATIONS. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course covers the following subjects: - Methods of representation of three-dimensional space on the plane (perspective, orthogonal projections, axonometry and level curves) - Theory of shadows - Elements of Projective Geometry applied to Descriptive Geometry - Representation of curved lines and surfaces - Reverse-perspective constructions - Drawing, image and model - Drawing as a language to communicate and interpret form - Architectural drawing: conventions and types of drawing and images - Digital and traditional Representation - History of representation RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Mandatory text: -A descriptive Geometry manual of your choice. If not possessed, ask to the teacher, who will also make available additional notes. Optional text (especially recommended for those who have not already practiced architectural design): -Docci M., Maestri D., Gaiani M. (2017), Scienza del disegno. The written test contains theoretical questions and graphic exercises on the fundamentals and applications of representation methods. The oral exam consists in the discussion of the graphic drawings to show the knowledge of the topics covered in the course and the ability to apply it to the analysis and creation of drawings and images. ASSESSMENT METHODS STUDENTS WHO GET POSITIVE EVALUATIONS IN INTERMEDIATE TESTS (WHICH EXEMPT FROM THE WRITTEN TEST) AND TAKE PART IN THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES (DELIVERIES IN ITINERE) SUPPORT A REDUCED EXAM. FINAL ASSESSMENT- Takes into account: - curriculum of deliveries and revisions for attending students or, for those who do not attend, substitute processing to be agreed and revised (AT LEAST 1 TIME) with the teacher; - average evaluation of in itinere tests or of the written test; - evaluation of the graphic excercises; - evaluation of the monographic exercise; -oral discussion about themes and exercitation of the course.
