OVERVIEW

The course aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of the specialized uses of the Polish language. The 36-hour course is divided into two areas: "Cultural Tourism" and "Business".

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to address the issues related to the transition from the planned economy to the market economy. During the exercises, an overview of the characteristics of the economic language (Business Polish), administrative, legal-institutional as well as that of business and tourism will be examined. A comparison-contrast between the linguistic structures of the Polish and Italian business will be carried out on the basis of readings, translations and analysis of articles and some specialized texts (letters of intent, contracts, certificates of different character, feasibility studies) .

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Thanks to the specialist and practical nature of the course the student will learn to interact in communicative and professional situations and to understand the main economic issues with particular reference to the economic-commercial vocabulary, the language of business and tourism. At the end of the course, the student:

  • will have acquired the analytical skills with respect to the varieties of the Polish language in the field of economics and tourism,
  • will be able to understand and elaborate various texts at a specialized level in these areas ,
  • will have acquired the basic notions about the Polish economy, geography as well as the richness of Poland's historical and cultural heritage.                                                                          

 

 

PREREQUISITES

The course, of 36 hours and for 6 credits, is intended primarily for third year students of Modern Languages and Cultures, who have passed the Polish II exam and also to Polish Erasmus students.

TEACHING METHODS

36 hours of lessons (18 for Tourism, 18 hours for the Company) held in the second semester.
Lectures, group work, presentations, independent work, reading and translation exercises. Attendance is strongly recommended.

NB. In the second semester, unless otherwise indicated due to the evolution of the health situation, the course will take place in traditional (in presence) mode.

 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course offers an in-depth study of the special characteristics of the Polish language in the field of tourism and business. The course aims to develop and enhance different language skills that will enable students to interact effectively in communicative and professional situations in tourism and economy. It is also pais particular attention to strengthening students' cultural skills to arouse their interest in the cultural and historical heritage of Poland.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

A written and an oral test of both modules, Tourism and Business, at the end of the course.

The written test consists of a grammar-vocabulary test that verifies the knowledge of the topics done during the lessons. The oral part consists of a presentation of the individual work of the student. For the module on tourism it is e.g. a multimedia presentation or a tourist brochure on one region of Poland, while for the part dedicated to the economy, the student prepares e.g. a letter of motivation and the curriculum to be presented in a Polish company or writes an analysis of the statistical data concerning the current economic situation in Poland.

Examination methods in the exam include:
• understanding of questions
• knowledge of the contents
• exhibition and reworking skills
• knowledge of specialist terms
• grammar and communication skills in the field of business and tourism
