The main objectives of the course are: to acquire knowledge of the causes, epidemiological trends and prevention of the principal infectious and degenerative diseases and their health, social and economic impacts. During the course, students will be provided with the elements needed in order to understand how the Italian health system is organized; particular emphasis will be placed on health promotion, health education and preventive strategies.
At the end of the course the student will have acquired the knowledge necessary for the prevention of degenerative and infectious diseases and for the health promotion.

Health definition and health factors. Health Promotion. From health education to education for health. Epidemiology: epidemiological measurements and types of epidemiological studies. Primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. Epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases. Epidemiology and prevention of degenerative diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases and cancers. National Prevention Plan and National Immunization Plan. Notions of environmental hygiene. Notions of first aid.

The lessons will take place in the first semester. Lessons start: September 27, 2021.
Obligatory written examination consisting of 30 “closed-answer” questions with only one correct answer (one point for each correct answer) and of one “open” question. The open question will evaluate the student's level of detailed knowledge and use of appropriate language. The “open” question will be evaluated in a range between 0 (insufficient) and 3 (excellent).
Oral examination on request by the student, in order to improve the score obtained in the written examination.
If the examination cannot be held face-to-face, owing to the health emergency, it will take place online. The online examination will include one written test consisting of 31 “closed-answer” questions with only one correct answer (one point for each correct answer) and an oral examination.
The oral examination will assess the student's level of knowledge, quality of exposition and ability to use adequate vocabulary.
The written format has been adopted in order to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the entire course is assessed in an objective manner. This modality is deemed to be able to correctly evaluate the achievement of both the general and specific training objectives. In the oral examination, the student's level of knowledge, quality of exposition and ability to use appropriate vocabulary will be assessed.
