AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Laboratorio di Design 1 aims to transfer, through the design and development of a medium-sized sailing boat, the technical and cultural tools to manage the various phases of the project with methodological correctness.

Specific objectives are the management of the design process, the development of a preliminary project, the integration within the design choices of the implications related to the technological solutions adopted for the final realization of the product.

At the end of the workshop, the student will have to demonstrate that he/she has correctly managed an initial project loop within the assigned timeframe through the presentation of an evolved boat concept whose market positioning is known and analytically documented. Moreover, the morphological, functional and technological choices proposed in relation to the hull, the distribution of the interiors, the deck plan and the boat's governing bodies are justified.

TEACHING METHODS

The course is divided into theoretical lessons preparatory to the development of a sailing boat project.

A series of steps and deadlines are defined for the development of the project, monitored through design review activities and deliveries with presentation and evaluation of the stages reached.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

  • Hints at visioning tools and scenario building
  • Criteria for the design of a sailing yacht of medium size and complexity
  • Tools for carrying out a meta-design analysis
  • Significant parameters for controlling and developing the performance of a boat
  • Analysis of material properties as a tool for knowledge and awareness of design values
  • Introduction to construction processes based on wood and composite techniques
  • Distributional, functional and ergonomic aspects on board
  • Setting and control of a bill of quantities
