Food, body and psyche

AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student will be able:

1. to define clinical psychology, its main theoretical models and types of intervention

2. to know and understand childhood, adolescent and adult eating disorders through a psychodynamic perspective

3. to analyze and understand recent scientific literature on food and psyche

4. to know the main measures for screening problematic eating behaviors and apply them in right contexts and with appropriate objectives

•definition of clinical psychology

• main professional skills of clinical psychologists

• main psychogenetic models and psychotherapeutic approaches

• feeding and nutrition disorders by the DSM-5

• childhood eating disorders: diagnostic classifications and psychodynamic perspective

• DSM-5 feeding and nutrition disorders: adolescence and adulthood

• anorexia nervosa: diagnostic classification and psychodynamic perspective

• bulimia nervosa: diagnostic classification and psychodynamic perspective

• binge-eating disorder (bed): diagnostic classification and psychodynamic perspective

• relationships between eating disorders and psychological functioning (emotions, thoughts, behaviors)

• eating disorders and attachment

• eating disorders and alexithymia

• eating disorders and emotional regulation strategies

• relationships between diet and psychopathological symptoms (or psychological well-being)

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

- Written pre-exam (8 multiple choice questions, 2 open answer questions to be solved in 30 minutes)

- Oral exam, if the pre-exam is not taken 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam will include eight multiple-choice questions and two open-ended questions regarding the texts and topics covered in class.

The student must demonstrate both having acquired the contents of the course in an active and correct way, and of being able to communicate the information learned during the course using appropriate terminology.
