AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to provide the students with the tools for the dynamic identification and the vibration control of civil structures. After introducing the basics of linear random dynamics, Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) and Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) are discussed introducing the main frequency- and time-domain identification methods. Basic knowledge on the techniques for passive vibration control and the seismic isolation of structures is provided. Numerical and experimental laboratories for the application of the methods introduced in the course are also developed.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides the students with the theoretical foundation and operational tools for the dynamic identification of structures, by means of time- and frequency-domain methods, the bases of passive control techniques and seismic isolation.

The main learning outcomes of the Couse are:

  • Acquisition of the bases for the characterization of the dynamic response of structures to a random excitation
  • Ability to analyse and manipulate random quantities
  • Acquisition of the theoretical bases of dynamic identification of civil engineering structures
  • Ability to apply methods for the dynamic identification of civil engineering structures
  • Knowledge of the main methods for vibration control of structures
  • Knowledge of the bases of seismic isolation

TEACHING METHODS

The course is organized in class teaching (approximately 35 hours), computer lab (approximately 15 hours) and experimental laboratory (approximately 4 hours).
