OVERVIEW

The course focuses on the mechanisms of motor control: from the function of the cerebral cortex to the peripheral nerve in the healthy subject and neurological pathology.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Integrated Didactic Module aims to deepen the neurophysiological aspects of physical exercise and sports activity, in particular through the neurophysiological and electromyographic analysis of the surface of the muscles involved in the athletic gesture, differentiating the various sports for the specific peculiarities physiological.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

To lead the student toward an adequate level of knowledge and awareness about those brain symbolic functions that regulate and supervise motor acts and behaviours. In addition, chronic traumatic encephalopathy is examined in detail. Mechanisms of motor control, implicit and explicit motor learning, paratonia, muscular function and peripheral nerve are treated from a neurophysiological point of view.

TEACHING METHODS

Formal lessons, support of dedicated  audiovisual tools. Practical simulation of apraxia disorders.

In case of certification of specific learning disability, disability or other special educational needs, please contact both the Department contact person, Prof. Nicola Girtler, and the lecturer at the beginning of the lectures to agree on teaching and exam methods which, in compliance of the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory/dispensatory tools recognized by the University SLD Student Service.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Praxis. Ideomotor, ideative, melocinetic, dressing, visuocostruction, gait apraxia. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy: pathophysiology, pathology, clinical presentation, prevention. Motor control, motion kinematic optimization, implicit and explicit motor learning. Facilitatory and oppositional paratonia. Peripheral nerve function with sensory and motor nerve conduction studies, reflex responses. Surface electromyographic recording.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

Specific papers have been distributed during the lessons.
