66282 - Hydrodynamics:The module provides the scientific basis and illustrates simple techniques for solving problems involving fluids where heat transfer can be neglected.
66283 - Structural Mechanics: The course introduces the basic principles and methodological aspects of theoretical and applied mechanics, by adopting the tools of mathematical physics. The linear models for the static, kinematic and elastic behaviour of solids and structures are introduced to establish the fundamentals of the structural design. The student develops the engineering confidence and the operational skills to deal with elastic problems of increasing difficulty.
The teaching, consisting of two modules, introduces students to the complementary disciplines of Solid Mechanics (first module) and Fluid Mechanics (second module).
The first module, named Structural Mechanics, provides the fundamental knowledge of Solid and Structural Mechanics. By the end of the course, the student will have acquired the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills necessary to solve linear elastic problems of increasing complexity involving deformable bodies.
The second module, named Hydrodynamics, provides the foundations for the study of fluids, both in motion and at rest. By the end of the module, the students will be able to solve simple problems related to the action of a fluid on a body immersed in it, as well as problems concerning basic hydraulic systems.

The examination is divided into two parts, one for each module. The two parts take place in separate sessions. It is possible to take the exam for the two modules in different academic years.
The mark awarded in the course will be the average, rounded up to the next whole number, of the marks awarded in the two modules into which the course is divided. The examination is passed with distinction only if both modules are passed with distinction.
Please refer to individual modules.
